Repair or replace?

Vehicle contact
The most common cause by a wide margin, and it is more common where driveways are short. Alton Village and The Orchard were both built with short drives, which leaves less margin between a bumper and a closed door.
Forcing a frozen door
When a bottom seal has frozen to the slab, pressing the button or lifting hard puts the whole load into one section. The panel bends or the stiles pull away before the ice lets go.
Wind load on a wide leaf
A wide door caught by wind while part open flexes across its span. Lakeshore streets from Spencer Smith Park east through Shoreacres and Elizabeth Gardens are the most exposed in the city.
Corrosion from the bottom up
Road salt, grit and standing meltwater attack the bottom section first, particularly on a driveway that falls toward the garage, so the lowest panel often ages years ahead of the rest.

Can one panel really be replaced on its own?
On a sectional door, usually yes. Each section is a separate component joined by hinges, so a damaged one can come out and a matching one go in, provided the profile, panel pattern, gauge and finish can be matched and the rest of the leaf is sound. What has to be checked at the same time is the hardware behind the damage, because an impact that dents a panel commonly bends a hinge or a roller carrier as well.
Will the new section match the colour of the old ones?
It will match the specification, and it will look slightly newer. Factory finishes weather, so sections that have faced fifteen Burlington summers sit a shade softer than a panel straight from the manufacturer. On a white or almond door the difference is usually minor and settles further over a couple of years. On a strong colour or a woodgrain finish it is more noticeable, and we will tell you that before you commit rather than after.
When is it better to replace the whole door?
